Patient Success Story – Lisa
At the age of 25, while studying at Florida State University, Lisa discovered a discolored mole on her face. While she didn’t think much of the mole, she was encouraged to get it checked out. After making an appointment with a local doctor, Lisa got the devastating news that she had Stage Four Melanoma. As a student, Lisa did not have health insurance and was unsure of what to do – until she was referred to WeCare in Tallahassee, Florida.
Due to her melanoma diagnosis, Lisa had to move back home to Jacksonville, Florida and was referred to the WeCare Jacksonville office. With their help, Lisa was connected to various dedicated doctors and surgeons at St. Vincent’s Hospital. The medical staff not only provided her with exceptional treatment, but offered her reconstructive surgery once the mole was treated and removed.
Fast forward to today, over 25 years since her diagnosis, Lisa is cancer-free! Shortly after treatment, Lisa returned to school at the University of North Florida where she got a degree and gained experience for her future endeavors. Lisa is now raising a 13-year-old son and working for a local retirement community.
When asked what she is most thankful for Lisa stated, “WeCareJax, for saving my life.”
