Patient Success Story – Brittany
Great news – After months of uncertainty, Brittany learned that her tumor was benign! Three-weeks post-surgery with our partners at Baptist MD Anderson, she’s relieved to be sleeping soundly for the first time in months. The reason for her discomfort surprised even her surgical team!
Brittany first noticed something was not quite right back in January of 2019. Without health insurance, she did what so many folks do – waited and hoped it would go away. When August came around, she knew she needed to see a doctor, and didn’t know how she could afford it. Without an insurance card, she also wasn’t sure if she could see a doctor outside of an emergency room.
Unsure of who to turn to, she thankfully heard about the Mass Clinic, which would be established as her primary care medical home. Through WeCareJax, Mass providers ordered imaging and referred Brittany for a consult with a specialty care provider. From there, an MRI confirmed that the tumor required surgical intervention, and WeCareJax’s referral team connected Brittany to Baptist MD Anderson for the next steps.
During her care with Baptist MD Anderson, the surgeons were surprised at what they found: the tumor alone weighed 22 pounds!
After a successful surgery and a short hospital stay, Brittany is home and relieved to be able to sleep comfortably for the first time in a year. Thanks to WeCareJax’s partners in compassionate care, she won’t lose sleep worrying about the costs of her surgery or follow-up care, either.
Our team at WeCareJax is so grateful for everyone who helped Brittany along her care continuum, and look forward to keeping in touch as she heals.
