Patient Success Story – Lucille
Lucille desperately needed a surgical procedure to remove two abscesses that made themselves residents near her chest. These fungal abscesses appeared after she was punctured by the thorn of a sago palm tree while she was doing landscaping work.
With no insurance and limited resources, Lucille went to the emergency room. As part of the partnership formed with the local hospital and WeCareJax’s Health and Wellness Program, she was linked with WeCare’s Nurse Case Manager, Tina.
After advocating on behalf of yet another patient, it was decided that WeCare would intervene and help Lucille get rid of the pain and discomfort she was experiencing from the persistent infection that she had. In the meantime, she was set up with a primary care clinic that monitored her injury and discovered that she had a basal cell carcinoma on her right eye – requiring another expensive surgery. Fortunately, thanks to the care from the dedicated individuals involved, Lucille was able to get both issues taken care of and she is cancer and pain-free!
