Patient Success Story – Russell
Meet Russell – a former truck driver from Nevada whose life changed dramatically after he unknowingly experienced a massive heart attack while he was on the road. This heart attack was a sudden onset of an illness that manifested itself in his legs that led him to have quadruple bypass surgery. After the surgery came lung collapse and kidney failure that has caused him to now be on dialysis.
In between becoming a new unexpected resident of Jacksonville and processing a major life change, he was in need of establishing a home to receive primary care – becoming a patient at one of WeCareJax’s partnered clinics through the collaborative efforts of our Health and Wellness program. It was there that he received additional services such as medications, links to social sxervices, dietary counseling, home visiting that provided him with much-needed emotional support, and more.
Although Russell has experienced major life changes and continues to adjust to a newfound lifestyle that has left him incapable of working, he is grateful for the support and help he has received through WeCareJax and our partners. Through the American Kidney Foundation and the help of WeCare, Russell now has medical insurance and finds time to drive people to their medical appointments when needed.
